Detour Lake was originally discovered by Amoco who brought in Campbell (member of placer Dome group)when it looked like they had a mine. Amoco backed out when things did not work out so good during initial ops. Placer Dome had problems from day 1, mainly with poor continuity of mineralization, leading to lower grades to the mill. Good luck to the new operators! Maybe gold price will help. maybe they will be better operators, but Placer Dome certainly had experience, and I do not consider them to have been dummies. By the way. took me a lot longer than 1.5 hours to drive from Timmins to Detour. And if you are speeding watch for caribou on the road!
