How current crisis compares to the Great Depression

Submitted by SHNS on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 14:26. business and economy By JIM DOWNING, Sacramento Bee

The federal government is taking its strongest steps since the 1930s to shore up the financial sector. That's good news, as far as Eric Rauchway is concerned.

Rauchway is a professor of history at the University of California, Davis, and the author of the new book "The Great Depression and the New Deal: A Very Short Introduction."
