I don't think IT is necessarily even a "fact" that "it has existed for THOUSANDS of years" when you look at the 'species' as whole, especially if you take this to mean "monogomous" as well. I certainly don't think that there is a hardwired causual relationship between a "family" being 2 parents + their babies mean 'better' offspring.

I DO think that in todays world, given the way our society has evolved it is the norm to grow up in a family with 2 parents and it is a good "indicator" of children growing to be good additions to society.

I further think that this is simply because historically many of those families outside that norm have been that way not because they wanted to by making some alternative choice but because of other factors concordant with lower quality parenting skills as those of the norm.

THAT DOES NOT EQUAL 2 PARENTS ARE BETTER THAN ONE, OR MULTIPLE FOR THAT MATTER as a cause in itself.
