Interesting that McCain is willing to settle for a $5m exemption ... for several years the dems have been willing to set it at $3.5m and repubs have been holding out for $7.5m. I've always figured it would be settled at $5m but with dems controlling both branches it looks like it will be $3.5m. The portability will be nice though under the current system I would draft the necessary trusts to maximize tax benefits for $400, it takes me about an hour, the reason it is very expensive for some couples is that they are getting ripped off.
