I learn a lot by talking to the people I agree with. I constantly learn from all the folks here- (and I started making a list but then I was afraid I would leave someone out and hurt someone's feelings.)

The problem, imo, is that once you get someone from who perceives you are the "other" side dropping in they come to needle, and not to share. They bring only the most controversial things- and often those things are a great bad of wind. So no, I don't think we learn much by talking to people with whom we disagree- UNLESS those people are of uncommon goodwill and are willing and able to stop the needling, and really get down to issues. Those people (at least judging by the drop ins we have had) are few and far between.

So I disagree that you can't learn from the people you agree with, and I also disagree there is much to be gained by petulant visitors who perceive you as then "evil other" willfully resisting their oh so obviously correct position.
