couldn't live without them! I can't watch this crap all the time, so, I let trailing stops mind it for me. I think the trick is setting the stop loosely enough to accommodate some volatility. I like 5% stops in general.

I use 5% regular stops; not trailing stops. In the past I've just used trailing stops with stocks that make big moves trying to recapture some of the big move down when it moves back up. However, it hasn't worked that way for me.

Z, pls note that Chris uses 5% trailing stops and he likes them.

I think trailing stops are practically REQUIRED with double long and double short ETF's.

What do you mean double long/double short?

I would never use a trailing stop on stocks with the kind of over the top volatility that DUG or DXD have. They can cover a 10-15 point range in one trading day. What happens if the stop kicks in at the low end of the range and you miss most of the trading range for that day. With those stocks, I am very hands on when taking my profits.
