I don't think you can do this.

This upfront payment is for two things - payment for past royalties due, and an upfront cash payment for the 15 year license agreement.

I provided estimates for the past NOK royalties due based on the average old royalty rate of around 4.2% in that long series of posts, and it amounted to $1.07 to $1.28 billion. That was for 5 quarters ending 6/30/08, and maybe needs to be updated to cover the quarter 7/1/08 to 9/30/08 quarter just ended since the payment will not made in the current quarter. At least that's a cleaner accounting scenario since it cleans up past due royalties through the end of QCOM's FY2008.

Royalties from NOK going forward from 10/1/08 are a completely separate matter from the upfront payment.

No real way to get at that rate until QCOM reports a quarter with them included, which will not be until Q2 FY2009 gets reported next April.
