So every leader we elect should have been in the military? I think that is part of the problem. This country has moved so far right, that we think every problem has to be solved with the military. We've forgotten how to use alliances, diplomacy, and spreading of economic benefits and trade as a means of solving problems. Ultimately, I want this country to be about trade and wealth creation, not about imperialism and dominance militarily.

I've always been for a strong military, but we need to be smarter about how we deploy it. Bush Sr. struck the right balance. He fought his Gulf War and someone else paid for it. Bush Jr made us pay $700B and we're still paying and there isn't one scrap of benefit as far as the eye can see. Hell, it knocked out the balance of power in the region, and in particular, it knocked out Iran's biggest enemy, which is why they feel so dominant and empowered to thumb their nose at us now. We need to start thinking about the global strategic picture when we act, and start using other tools besides our military, that are at our disposal.
