>>Think of Michael Carey as our local Alaska version of Jim Lehrer. He moderates a weekly discussion on Alaska public tv/radio, and tomorrow's broadcast will have the panel's reaction to Branchflower's Troopergate report...<<
Snowshoe -
I just listened to the Fresh Air interview with Michael Carey. Fascinating stuff. At one point, Terry Gross asks him how the McCain campaigns involvement may have affected the Troopergate investigation. Carey replies that for Sarah Palin, "It was a disaster."
He went on to say, "It seemed to me what they [the McCain campaign] wanted to do was cast this as a totally partisan endeavor on the part of a bunch rogue Democrats in the state legislature, who were out to get Sarah Palin, on behalf of Barack Obama.
"So what we have now, I mean, if you want to look at this way, is Sarah Palin saying 'I was completely vindicated by a rogue investigation operated by a bunch of Obama supporters.'"
That's an excellent point. It highlights the complete absurdity of Palin's response to the report, which has been echoed by other people who are part of the McCain campaign.
Of course, those of us who've been paying attention know that a bipartisan legislative committee of twelve voted first to fund the investigation, then to release the report as submitted, holding back only the parts of the report that had to do with confidential personnel matters concerning Wooten. Both of those votes were unanimous.
I'm looking forward to listening to tomorrow's panel discussion on Carey's show. I hope I can get it over the web.
