Yes, there's an onshore natural gas drilling boom. But it is true the Democratic party is in bed with the environmental movement. Its just harder to prevent drilling onshore. Most land in the east is privately owned and landowners are happy to cash lease bonus checks. Even federal land in the west needs to be declared wilderness. Environmentalists do throw up all the road blocks they can, filing suit over anything they can think of.
