With the exception of those four years during WWII, I don't think any of the Scandinavian countries has ever been invaded, conquered, or occupied by any other nation.

Might be some Fins that would take exception to this comment. I believe Finland has been occupied (maybe ruled would be a better word?) by Russia off and on for just about ever. In the Winter War with Russia in 39, Finland lost much of their territory to Russia never to be regained. So interestingly if you count 1939, Finland fought on both sides of the war! Their whole effort though was to save their country which was smack dab between Germany and Russia. Absolutely fascinating reading this part of Finlands history.
