Aside from the general tone of a suicide note, you just have to love the part where he says this country needs to better leverage its best minds, then befuddle their wits with pot. Wouldn't it be better to work toward a society where the majority of its people are happy without drugs?

In the mean time, he talks about a system of government where corruption is endemic, but his logic process cuts off when he gets to the point of wondering why there are so many illegal drugs floating around. Globally, the illegal drug industry's income is second only to oil. In 2000, the evil Taliban wiped out opium production in Afghanistan, being perhaps the first government in history to win the war on drugs. The previous year, Afghanistan accounted for 75% of the global heroin supply. During the summer of 2001, the CIA armed and organized the country's opium lords into what eventually became known as the Northern Alliance. Since the US led coup that ousted the evil Taliban, and put the country's opium cartels in power, Afghanistan now accounts for 93% of the world's heroin, which kills over 100,000 people every year.
Interestingly, the cost of enough legal morphine needed to ease the suffering of a terminally ill cancer patient, costs about one thousandth of what it costs to dose an illegal heroin user.
So, for those who think government should make it easier for people to get drugs, you can rest easy, it already is.
A better strategy would be for users to boycott illegal drugs, and thereby cut off the funding for illegal government operations. In other words, don't feed the hand that bites you. |
