Cisco IR? >> check out ... lanquest.com visit the site to view the performance graphs. the as5300 significantly outperforms the tnt in every test. here is an extract: "In September 1997, LANQuest Labs performed a benchmark test comparing two Remote Access Servers, Cisco's new AS5300 and Ascend's new MAX TNT. The goal of our testing was to determine which Remote Access Server provided the greatest throughput (in packets per second). Because performance can vary depending upon the access method, the access servers were tested first across analog modem connections only, and second across ISDN connections only. The analog connections were tested using 92 modems, and the ISDN connections used 92 single "B" channels. Traffic was generated from PC workstations into the LAN interfaces, across the WAN interfaces, and then captured on another PC workstation running a packet monitoring software. Packet sizes of 64 bytes and 256 bytes were used to thoroughly test for any limitations due to large number of packets or large packet sizes. The test results showed the Cisco AS5300 clearly outperforming the Ascend MAX TNT remote access server." ... "CONCLUSION The results of this test showed a clear performance variance between two leading Remote Access Servers currently on the market. Cisco's AS5300 delivered superior peak performance over all packet sizes and packet rates compared to the Ascend MAX TNT for both analog and ISDN remote access connections."
