Toshiba vs Samsung: MemWars II

Toshiba's defense against a Samsung/SanDisk union:

The main battle fields: Spansion, QI and SanDisk

Meanwhile... L'Intel had to eat another $250M on their Numonyx JV... don't know how much more STM had to swallow... but it's worth noting that neither Samsung, Toshiba... nor anyone else from Japan, Inc. is seeking to take the NOR/PCM JV away from its current "masters."

And of course... Ramtron isn't even on the M&A radar screens for the DRAMURAI... or the NANDITTI for that matter... at this point. No reason it should be. The company hasn't made a market large enough to make the investment worth while for these "MegaFabs" fighting over the right to lose the most money on DRAM and FLASH sockets.

And all the "FabLite" folk amoung the big caps like Fujitsu and TI already have as much interest in RMTR as their business models require or want, i.e., a license.

That leaves the private equity VC types like the group that bought the MRAM biz from Freescale, itself owned by VC king Blackstone... But that was of course prior to the current credit/leverage collapse in Hedge Fundom. And it was only a partial sale for a $20M pittance. Frankly it looks more like a "hedge" by Blackstone to transfer a portion of the risk of MRAM success/failure to third parties.

So here we are... making (and losing) money the old fashioned way. We either earn it or burn it.

At a P/E of 5 and >25% growth rates the market must view as pure fantasy... there just isn't any alternative that I can see. <Hoo><ack><pHooie>

My guess is they try to de-leverage a few more shares before the end of the month. But if we get a close over $2.60 next week I think it's also possible that we'll see $4/sh again before we get to the November 4... See how I worked in those lucky #4 references? <Hoo><Hoo><Haa>
