Nonsense. Joe pays taxes on NET income. Employee wages are a deductible business expense. If Joe pays a new employee $50K annually that's $50K Joe DOESN"T pay tax on. Presumably the employee will generate additional revenue and NET INCOME for Joe, and Joe will pay tax on the additional NET INCOME.
That stuff about looking at taxes and saying "See, If I didn't have to pay these taxes I could be paying employees!" is bullcrap. The only thing those lower taxes mean is more money in the owner's pocket.
I know, any tax is too much. But if we want to pay for stuff like armor and airplanes for our troops, highways, food inspectors, national parks, cancer research, education - the money has to come from somewhere. Republicans put it on a credit card and tell folks they're saving them money by lowering taxes. Baloney. They've undermined our security by borrowing from China.
If either candidate want's to help Joe they should take the bull by the horns and establish a single payer system and remove health insurance from the equation. Joe's competing for employees with larger firms that have larger groups and can offer better health coverage at lower cost per employee. A single payer system would level the playing field for Joe.
The second issue is illegal workers. I personally know may in the construction trades who bitterly complain that wages are down from ten years ago because immigrants and illegals are willing to work for less than Americans. Yes, government contracts require that employees be paid the local "fair rate", but in non-government work anything goes. A homeowner wants an addition: The general contractor will hire the least expensive quality sub, and if that sub happens to employee recent immigrants willing to work for $12 rather than $24, well, Joe and his American crew are out of a job.
Joe the American had plans to hire more workers after buying his employer's plumbing business. Therefore, Obama not only discouraged Joe from purchasing the business, but eliminated those new jobs as well. |
