There are several states I thought would be much more of a battle. It's shaping up to be one heck of an election. The black young men I teach are absolutely convinced "something" will happen to take the election away from Obama. I certainly hope he wins so I can say "See, a black man CAN win a presidential election in America (without being killed)." My students are all convinced he will be killed. I think (maybe) we focus a bit too much on the death of MLK, and we've made a generation of black young people a little too paranoid- or maybe I'm just too optimistic about the whole thing. But we've come a long way from the '60s.
