From what I've read, Pelosi has a much greater prospect of continuing in power than Reid. She not only has the vote of the more liberal portions of the Dem caucus but sufficient numbers of other middle of the road types with whom she's worked, to control the caucus. At least to beat Steny Hoyer. My personal favorite if there were votes to replace her would be Rahm Emannuel.

As for Reid, he was Daschle's whip and thus sort of succeeded to the role. I assume his ability to stay in the leadership position depends on his ability to hold the caucus together rather than his TV persona.

As a replacement, my own vote would go for Hillary Clinton. But she will have to outpoll Schumer and Dodd and the other senator from Illinois, name escapes me as I type, who is the present whip.
