The question of who chooses who is no different than one of who hires who. Bear with me here. I want to become an employee of a company, so to better my chances I research the company, learn about their culture, learn the qualifications of those they hired in the past. I check out what they have a need for. Armed with this knowledge I work hard to bring myself up to their expectations, I apply for the Job and there is a good chance I'll be hired. They hire me, but I made myself attractive to them and I applied for the job.
Only in God's loving way, He makes it easy for us to become His servant. He provided us His word for direction. We can go to Him in prayer and ask Him to help us to get closer to Him. He provided us with his Son, who humbled himself even to death to cover for our sins. And he has provided gifts in men, who aid us. Yes we are chosen but for a reason, not blindly. 'We need to seek and we will find.' 'We need to draw closer to God and He will draw closer to us.' In the end our efforts are blessed.
Out of God's extensive love, it is also clear that He seeks out those with the qualities that He looks for in his servants and draws them as well. In the same way that a person may seek to become friends with those whose qualities they like. Inviting them over and trying to establish a relationship. But, that individual still has to accept you as a friend for that relationship to continue. Remember when Jesus appeared to the Apostle Paul and clearly convinced him that he, Jesus, was the Messiah. The Apostle Paul accepted Jesus' invitation and become a faithful servant. Whereas others who Jesus invited to join him, declined the invitation.
God is patient and desires all to become repentant. It is clear that He takes the lead in helping mankind to get a clear understanding of his requirements. We need to read the Bible daily, Pray to God regularly, and do his will as expressed in the Bible. |
