The "free market" free-for all - a/k/a cronyism - at Fanny and Freddie did us no favors. I get the cronyism part, but when the cronyism is basically regulatory capture where congressional oversight turned into one party using Freddie and Fannie as a piggy bank it is not "a free market" free for all. It is a failure of a regulatory regime. Fannie and Freddie's failure is all about the Government Sponsored Enterprise failure not a market failure.
