Obama and McCain are the CEOs of their campaigns. They hire the key staff, including their running mates, approve all ads, approve budgets, approve the overall strategy and message and are ultimately responsible for the success or failure of the effort.

That is a nonsence play. He also is not the CEO of his campaign. Axelrod and others run the campaign. Obama gives speeches and interviews.
