It's not ridiculous at all under the circumstances and certainly not insulting to ask for a basic constitutional requirement.

If I demanded such proof from either candidate I would be considered a crank and summarily dismissed. Same if I asked that documentation of the calculation of the CPI or the body count in Iraq be submitted to me by the originators.

This is a big government. There are officials designated to receive, review, and certify all sorts of things. That has long since occurred in the matter of McCain's and Obama's eligibility to be president.

If you don't trust the certification, then use FOIA or other mechanisms to verify the certification. Asking the originators to submit their eligibility documentation to someone other than the designated official is insulting to the parties and to the process.

Do you really expect that the certification role was given to some incompetent? That the determination wasn't checked and double and triple checked? That there's some error? Surely not.
