As a moderate swinging both ways, but obviously favoring the left in recent years, I would like to acknowledge - as has been posted by others on this thread - that the Dems have a lot to account for in their part in the current meltdown. The WSJ has had some excellent articles on Chris Dodd's participation in limiting oversight on Freddie May/Macs, and now the New York Times weighs in. Maybe we can all agree it's a good thing his presidential ambitions didn't go any further (ditto John Edwards - but let's let that shameless person RIP with his poor wife)

All IMHO
From the NYT:

Senator Dodd’s Notion of Courtesy
Published: October 20, 2008

After reports emerged in June about him having received favorable treatment on two home mortgages from the Countrywide Financial Corporation, Senator Christopher Dodd, a Democrat from Connecticut, promised that he would release documents to support his contention that he never benefited financially from the terms of the loans.

The senator has failed to keep his promise, and his excuses are wearing ridiculously thin.
