I don't buy that.
Suppose you hold someone up at gunpoint and say "Give me all your money or I will shoot you."
They don't hand over their money, and instead tell you that they have none, so you shoot them.
(You may or may not say "See what you made me do", BTW.)

I think you are responsible for the shooting, not them. You are the one with the gun.
Whether or not they actually *do* have any money is a different matter, but either way they are not the one responsible for the shooting.
