MM,
Well, we will have to disagree on Palin. She did flounder-- and badly. She lacked even basic international knowledge, and she sounded as if she was reading off notecards- which she probably was- in her interviews. All I have seen from her is a real talent for speaking and connecting with her audience, but nothing that convinces me she is presidential material.
Being grounded has nothing to do with killing moose. There is a narrow and questionable definition of what this means at play with Palin. Being grounded isn't defined by an ability to hunt or fish. She has lead a typical Alaskan lifestyle, as my inlaws in Wasilla have, but are no more grounded than we are in Texas in our own way of life.
As for the ethical judgments, I really have to differ with you there. The presence of Todd in the office, Troopergate, the use of state funds to fly her family around and then pretend it was state business when even the people involved say there were surprised when she showed up with her children. This is a woman who has very poor judgment, or else such consummate ego that she believes she is entitled. Right now, I find her moral compass extremely superficial. And right now, all I see is charisma, and I do distrust it. But time will tell. |
