Leftist and Commie Symp John LE CARRE

The man used to be an excellent writer. Many of his books, like the George Smiley series, or "The Perfect Spy" are, imo, masterpieces. Regrettably, he lost it.

Just finished his recent "The Most Wanted Man". The book is not nearly as well written as many of his earlier works. But the ending is a complete disgrace. He devotes the entire book to a slow, "Le Carre-esque", elaborate development of his spy story. Not bad at all, even though his writing is not at its best (which is still better than most out there). Then, unexpectedly, at the end, a bunch of stupid throat-cutter Americans suddenly barge in into the the clever, humane intelligence operation... and do their brutal thing... and everything ends badly, and people get hurt. Makes you hate the SOB's.

The book's ending is almost like a copout. Instead of ending it, he kills it.

Le Carre always had an anti-American streak, but by now it's almost hatred - and the redeeming values are fewer and further between. Those who want to read the book, read it -- but stop a few pages before the ending. It stinks.
