It's not so much that sunspots cause global warming as absence of sunspots causes global cooling and participates in reversion to ice age:<No, sunspots won't cause global warming. This is fairly well known. CO2 does that. Even ye olde ice ages were not caused by sunspots, but rather by orbital dynamics, >
Carbon being stripped from the atmosphere is the main cooling mechanism. Look how much used to be in the ecosphere being buried as coal, shale, oil, gas, limestone, bitumens. It was all alive once upon a time. As it was stripped, Earth cooled and froze, with ice age the norm these days.
The CO2 left is a thin gruel for plants to struggle by on. Poor things. Fortunately, people are keen on recycling and sustainability these days so we are returning the carbon to whence it came, returning Gaia to previous days of glory. Okay, we aren't bringing back the carboniferous era, but it's a nice gesture to burn as much carbon as we are doing. We could all just go to the beach or play cyberspace games instead.
