>>I think - and I'm guessing at the logic here - the idea is that first ACORN makes up all these fake registrations. Then a load of Democrat voters show up claiming those are their registrations, and vote accordingly (presumably having already used their proper vote?). And this is then why the Democrats are so against voter ID, because it would foil their cunning plan.<<

Yes, I think that's what some people believe. The fact that there is extremely scant evidence of actual votes cast by fraudulently registered voters apparently means little.

The explanations that ACORN has offered for the bogus registration apps seems credible enough to me, especially when you consider the fact that they themselves have flagged the questionable registrations, and have fired any of their staff who appear to have filled out the apps fraudulently.

But the Republicans are desperate. They simply can't believe that a majority of Americans are ready to vote against them this year. So they are already seeking other explanations for their upcoming loss. It's as if they're demanding a recount before the polls have opened.

I read one article (on a blog somewhere) questioning whether the so-called massive" voter registration issues and poll results favoring Obama were coincidental, and implying they were not. There was no attempt to actually connect the dots there. I don't blame them for that, though. I tried to find some logical connection between the two, and couldn't come up with anything.
