I think they know we're screwed. The problem is that if this isn't dragged out, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as so much of our savings is tied to asset wealth.

I'm a purist: I believe that this resolves itself when assets are at fair value.

That means 15%+ to go on Case Shiller and a good chunk more with equities.
