Dale,

With regards to Palin, the other Alaskan Senate seat is up for election in 2010. I wonder if Palin will make a play for that seat. But there are a couple of questions that need to be answered with regards to her political future.

Has the VP nominee slot helped or hurt Palin at home in Alaska. While it has gotten her a lot of publicity, it seems to have stirred up feelings of those against her as well, especially some of her bridge to nowhere stuff.

She has campaigned against earmarks while being for them for her home state. Does she go for the earmarks or against them? If she goes for them, can she run as the "Maverick" in the future and if she goes against earmarks, does she turn off the voters in her own state.

Where will the Trooper Gate investigation eventually lead? She and her husband were supposed to give depositions, I believe today, in St. Louis. What will they say and how will that be viewed by the home team back in Alaska?

With falling oil prices, how will that effect Alaska's finances and how will she handle the problems that eventually arise? If Alaskans don't get as much money next year, will she viewed as favorably as she has in the past?

There are lots of issues that can come up that will help and hurt her political chances. It will be interesting to watch but there are many things that might not break her way. She is very politically astute so I think she has a great chance to land on her feet whatever she decides to go after but I wouldn't count her as a shoe in for anything right now.

Neal
