When the economy's rockin', don't come knockin'
Oct. 24, 2008 12:00 AM

A Phoenix-based company that makes personal lubricant and related products is positioning itself to reach consumers who are staying home during the economic crisis.

"Vacations are a real luxury now," said Aram Chavez, international sales director for DreamBrands Inc. "People are buying these products and having their own little vacation at home. It's an inexpensive and healthy way to have fun."

One year ago, the company had one product. Now, it has 12. It has focused on marketing to Baby Boomers.

Its Oceanus Naturals line is sold in Arizona at retailers like Bashas', while its new Oceanus Sensuals line is sold at adult stores.

Gary Kehoe, whose inventions include Zicam nasal gel, founded the company in 2004. Personal lubrication is a roughly $130 million-a-year industry in the United States.

This month, it is giving 20 percent of online sales of its Carrageenan product to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
