Yes, I remember you mentioning 'Flashman' before. I wanted to add it to my reading list but previously I forgot.... Well, it's added now.

I really appreciated the way they wrote back then, very ornate. They never used a penny word were a twenty five cent one would fit.

Long ago I read a book by Edith Hamilton called the Greek Way to Western Civilization. In it she gave a comparison of greek to victorian writing for the definition of happiness. The victorian definition was a full paragraph long and the greek one was one sentence:

Ancient Greek definition of happiness:

The exercising of vital powers along lines of excellence in a life affording them scope.
