You are welcome Marek, and thanks for taking my personal criticisms in good humour. I made one of myself which I'm serious about = supporting the torture to the death of infants and young children.
We are very imperfect thinking machines and it is wrong to criticize Alan Greenspan KBE for not really making a mistake. Assuming that people will try to protect their assets is a reasonable assumption.
The best we can expect people to do is operate from good intentions, honestly and as best they can. That's normally within our abilities. But even then we get into dilemmas about which is the least harmful thing to do.
I really do still think Greenspan did a near enough job. At the times I complained that he was slow to lower interest rates in Y2K and slow to raise them about 2003/2004. But those were minor complaints. If he had acted when I said, it would have made things a bit less bad, but not vastly. If he had telephoned me and said, "I'm going to do what you say, what should I do?" I'd have been far less certain about my ignorant comments and would have said, "Please ignore my cyberspace rants which are just thoughts out loud, to be taken with a grain of salt". On the other hand, I might have said, "I'd like to see all this data please and then I'll give you my opinion in 2 weeks".
It's easy to be an ignorant ranting bystander. When I have been the person having to make decisions and reality happens as a result, it's a more sweaty affair.
I absolutely would not hassle Greenspan let alone berate him from anything I have seen so far.
I do admit that a few years ago, it crossed my mind, though I never voiced it, to wonder whether he was in John Galt mode and was deliberately bringing down the system. I can't say I saw any evidence of that. But it remains a possibility. Given his earlier enthusiasm for gold as a monetary foundation, there is some circumstantial evidence that it was a plan to re-enact the one true money. But I never saw anything to fill out that possibility. That there is a financial glitch now is not sufficient evidence, though it is in keeping and certainly does NOT falsify the theory.
There was circumstantial evidence on a similar basis that I am in favour of torturing children, but that is not true.
