Ann, you're missing a very important step in the process. The "private" ballot question to which you're referring, under Obama's idea is moot. This is because the unions would have the result needed prior to even having a ballot, thus avoiding any ownership coersion which might enter in from the balloting process.

Don't you think workers need protection? If the proposed union is strong enough to clearly exist, why the need for a "private" ballot, a process of which owners can use to knock down the possibility of the union?

I firmly believe that if you research the respective plumbers unions, you'll find they all support Obama's plan. Don't get carried away, or misconstrued, by the marketing of the McCain campaign's version of "Joe the Plumber." Better, put ... there--most of whom will vote for Obama!
