It is NOT clear whether McCain shares any of these feelings at all,

Actually it seems like McCain does share those feelings, lots of news this am about this.

Here is where it starts I think, 3 days ago.

"There was a tenseness," Todd told MSNBC's Chris Matthews. "I couldn't see chemistry between John McCain and Sarah Palin. I felt as if we grabbed two people and said 'here, sit next to each other, we are going to conduct an interview.' They are not comfortable with each other yet."

And then today,
Four Republicans close to Palin said she has decided increasingly to disregard the advice of the former Bush aides tasked to handle her, creating occasionally tense situations as she travels the country with them. Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image -- even as others in McCain's camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain's decline.

Note that I think Palin MAY be disregarding her handlers, or she may just be too dumb to keep up. She can't convey a baseline talking point in an interview, we already know that from her interviews.
