I agree with many of your sentiments. I believe that qualified people stay out of politics because of the, well, crap that goes with it - finger pointing, credit grabbing, posturing, flipflopping, and ducking of responsibility.
I believe - and have said here for years, mostly prior to 2004 - that the underlying fault is in the two party system, for a wide variety of reasons I won't rehash. It boils down to the fact that the political vetting process eliminates people who don't toe the party line. That's why I believe McCain is such a disappointment - for many years, he did buck that system, but lost his mojo when it mattered most - and thus also lost his soul (and eliminated his main strength).
I am, however, hopeful that Obama will if not break that mold, maybe stretch it a bit. If he wins, we'll see. If McCain wins, maybe he will, too, though it will be harder for him sandwiched between a Democratic Congress and the Palin wing. But, there is a small bit of hope... |
