"3Com has developed its own "FIRE" chip, as TheStreet.com first reported on Sept. 12, to put in a line of layer-three switches. 3Com has embedded FIRE chips in its CoreBuilder 3500 product, in order to beat Cisco routers at the game of interconnecting LANs for corporations. Is this the answer to why Intel & Cisco jumped in bed together?
