"these stocks are now at ridiculously low valuations"

Compared to what? Not making fun of you or baiting you, but curious as to your logic. Our economy is contracting, emerging markets are collapsing, and hybrid/electric/fuel efficient cars are going to be very common in the 2010 model year. It seems to me that we are going to be seeing a substantial drop in oil demand over the next 2-3 years at least. We may even see gasoline below $2 one last time before this is all over. Getting oil from the sands is considerably more expensive than other methods. I don't know if it's even economical at current prices. It's been awhile since I have studied the issue but I seem to remember oil had to be around $80 for the tar sands to be economical.

I do agree that the price of oil will be higher in 10 years than today, far higher.
