The sign at a country's border that includes, or infers, the statement "SOVEREIGN STATE" should not give its government license to inflict atrocities of whatever nature on its populace, and nor should it prevent those who abhor such actions from using their capability and ensuring its cessation.

What should have priority, preventing the suffering, death or injury of innocent civilians powerless to defend themselves, or the upholding of man-made laws that can conveniently be used as an excuse for inaction ?
