A bit premature Mish for a comparison. There are several stages that have not happened yet for this crisis. The crash that started the last depression happened in 1929. The picture of the depression you showed was from 1936. Below I have a link for a photo essay. The pictures stretch over years.

Wait a few months, if Dwight and Rochelle's unemployment benefits run out and they are still unemployed. If they loose their house. The cars. Dignity. When Dwight's sister looses her job (he moved in with his sister). Do we call this the start of the migration (away from the coasts)?

The picture from the March of 1936 in Nipomo, California of the 32 year old haunts me also. It also strengthens me. You do what you need to do to survive. If you think it can not happen again how did it happen in the first time. On this board, we know that the assumptions of the greatest economic experts in the world are wrong. So if they also say it can never happen again, . . . .

I saw and approached the hungry and desperate mother, as if drawn by a magnet. I do not remember how I explained my presence or my camera to her, but I do remember she asked me no questions. I made five exposures, working closer and closer from the same direction. I did not ask her name or her history. She told me her age, that she was thirty-two. She said that they had been living on frozen vegetables from the surrounding fields, and birds that the children killed. She had just sold the tires from her car to buy food. There she sat in that lean- to tent with her children huddled around her, and seemed to know that my pictures might help her, and so she helped me. There was a sort of equality about it. Experts expect total October job losses to exceed 200,000, with many more to come. I can see this. I can NOT imagine job losses not drastically increasing throughout 2009. This is but a start.Waves of Layoffs not just a season of layoffs.

I think I need to stash cash.
