You forgot the worst aspect, it can compel people to buy insurance against their will in their attempts to provide these lofty goals you think are so damned important

What is your view about compel and auto insurance?

Indeed, one of the biggest problems with private health insurance is that unlike auto insurance, you are NOT currently compelled to get it. This leads directly to the problem of preexisting condition exclusions. You can eliminate that problem, even with private medical insurance, if everyone always carries insurance. This is the single biggest argument in favor of socialized health care: 100% coverage because everyone carries insurance. The downside for socialized health care is the lack of competition.

So work to address the actual issues, not the phantom ones.
