Saw Chuck Lee (CEO of GTE) on NBR tonight. He basically admitted that he hasn't talked with MCI or BT about a merger. Reporter asked if he was negotiating with MCI or BT. He said he wouldn't respond to when he will talk with them, but he looks forward to speaking with them. In other words, he hasn't talked with them yet.

And, if Lee and Ebbers were both selling any product, Ebbers could sell 10 times as much as Lee. I was not impressed with Lee at all. His style is so dull and unexciting as opposed to Ebbers. The difference is as dramatic as the difference between Bob Allen and Mike Armstrong at AT&T. Good thing he's offering cash to MCI s/h and not trying to sell them on the stock (based on his NBR performance).
