The amazing run of Citrix (CTXS) today is an early sign of the potential for network computers. Citrix is server-side software that runs Windows or DOS apps located on the server from browsers on the user's workstations. Virtually every early NC company has a deal with Citrix as a way to access legacy Windows apps. Now users seem to be installing Citrix as a way to simplify application support and bring down total cost of ownership - even in companies that have new Win 95 PCs. I'm fascinated that this use seems to be a grassroots movement on the part of IT departments - Citrix is not really pitching the product for the total cost of ownership market.

I see Citrix as a Trojan Horse for network computers. Once you have the architecture in place and your users are comfortable with accessing everything through a browser interface, it is a relatively easy thing to experiment with some NCs. After all, you are running everything off of servers anyway. Neat, huh?

Also neat to have an investment go from 53 to 74 in less than a month.
