oilgeezer/Arthur, thanks kindly for setting me straight on Peak Oil, and also thanks much for your thoughtful words.

I would venture to predict that it will be many years 'till we ever exceed the amount of oil consumption that ocurred during '05. In the US we are already down to consumption levels last seen in '00 or '01. As shown by the below graph of US oil consumption since 1970,



when oil consumption took a hit in the '80 recession, consumption levels didn't get back to pre '81 levels for many years. I realize the rest of the world is consuming more oil but, as we have seen recently, they are more closely tied to the US economy than some may have thought, at least in situations such as what has been going on now with the credit crunch.
