"What the government has tried is taking massive amounts of money from the rich."

"$1.6 trillion in tax breaks is what...chump change?"

I have no problem simplifying taxes. The rate of taxes depends on our economic situation. Sometimes we need more taxes and sometimes we can get by with less.

The financial situation has been getting increasingly worse for 30 years. This one is the worst so far but it is one in a series of shocks to the system. We have been getting more and more into debt during this time. We have a negligible or negative savings rate...this is a long time in the making.

Well, if you think that there is no fundamental difference in our tax set up then you shouldn't be concerned whether the tax rate is 25% or 35%.
