There is a VERY strong opinion against inflation in Europe. If inflation would go up a lot, like 10% per year or more, you will see millions in the streets demonstrating against it.

Inflation is perceived as one of the main factors behind WW2, and even when you talk to German teenagers today, what does it mean to be German, they talk about WW2. History has not been forgotten, and the inflation hasn't, either.

That's probably also the reason why Europe objected so heavily against the war in Iraq. Europe knows how expensive and destructive it is.
