The Obama website should not be regarded as trustworthy. Of the other two, snopes is the most trustworthy but even it can be fooled and doesn't consider many things. For example, Snopes doesn't address the question, was Obama a member of the New Party. He was. And the New Party was started by and promoted by the Democratic Socialists of America.

I posted something from the DSA's own archives which listed him as one of their candidates. I submit:

- the Democratic Socialists of America is/was clearly a socialist party

- the DSA in its own newsletter openly promoted the New Party and wrote of Obama as one of their successful candidates.

Thats seems like pretty clear evidence and it doesn't depend on any conjecture or any RW bloggers. Its straight from the horses mouth.
