That is completely false. The redistribution was from the wealthy to the less wealthy.

Redistributing upward would imply taxes that where much higher for the poor and middle class (in absolute dollar terms not just as a percentage), and government benefits that focus on the wealthy. Neither happened recently.

And we didn't even get "less redistribution", because (at least until the current economic slowdown) the wealthy where paying a larger and larger percentage of the tax burden every year. So we got more redistribution away from the wealthy.

Your incorrectly conflating "the rich are richer" with "the rich have more redistributed to them by the government", but they are two totally separate ideas, and in fact the more the rich (as a class) get richer the more they tend to get wealth redistributed away from them.
