Well, I can tell you why "trickle up" works better than "trickle down..."

For one thing, sheer economics -- it is good when money is exchanged over and over. The wealthy save a much larger portion of their money than the lower classes do, which means that much more of a dollar in the hands of the lower classes ends up going back into the system.
