"paying as much taxes as we do is the price we pay for society."

I'm not talking about the level of taxes, I'm talking about taxes. I've asked you for specifics and numbers. Turning it around and demanding it for me is just silly.

You show great certainty that we pay too much in taxes and the government spends too much. Yet you can't say what the optimum level is by percentage or by dollar amount. Since you don't know what is good how the heck do you know when you've arrived there?

"My arguments are mostly obviously true."

No, your arguments are simply an expression of your opinion.

"I say the majority of our taxes are not a necessary price for society"

Yes, you say that but HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE? Don't say it's obvious or that it is true because that isn't an answer...it's just another of your opinions.

"Spending beyond what is needed to keep society functioning may be optimal, but I'm not talking about "optimal", at least not as a main point."

So you want a bare bones government and not an optimum government. In that case, send a bill to AIG because they owe us about $90 billion. They aren't required in a bare bones government as they are a private company.

No, SS without the income contribution cap is self funding as far as the eye can see. Self funding is a feature of SS, not the reason for its being. The reason for its being is the reality about people saving for retirement and the risks of being alive. Other reasons include economic and social stability and morality.

Your cuts amount to less than the costs of occupation in Iraq. Simply stop the occupation.

Oh yes, I'm sure that stopping spending in the middle of a recession is a great idea.
