Yes, they do. The main reason for this is because they all have very limited storage capacity, so they are designed to produce pictures with low information density.

If an inexpensive, larger capacity storage medium were available for digital cameras, then the cameras could be designed to allow users to select a higher quality image setting, while still getting a reasonable number of shots per session. Hmmm. I wonder who could produce such a medium?

You are correct about the lithium batteries, though. They are very expensive and most people can't afford to carry a bunch of spare ones.

And by the way, even though digital cameras suck, they are selling well, and the market is growing rapidly.
